Right, so we have a 10mb cable (virgin) connection, and i'm sick as hell speaking with non gb call centres who are totally unhelpfull.

Hoping someone on here can help.

Basically, connection has been average, now the mrs has bought a new laptop, the connection has went to shit.

we run a vigin modem, a belkin router and two laptops.

When i connect direct to the modem, i get 8.6mb.
When the mrs connects direct, she gets 9.8mb.

When we are both connected to the wireless, she gets 6ish mb, i get 2mb.

When one laptop is off, and the other is on, it makes no difference?

We used to be ok, but we are now unable to stream / download, which is a bit of a ballache.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Apart from ringing them idiots again.

Cheers.

I personally wouldnt worry about it? either speeds are fantastic and probably good for what your most likely doing?

Anything above 512mb is going to be great for surfing the web.

BUt if i try to download / stream anything, it gets so far & stops, sorry, should have included that.

Even speed checkers wont finish loading, they get so far, then it tails off?

forget the connection speeds, because they dont really mena much.

Is all your problems related to when the laptop is wireless?

Have you tried broadband tests when plugged straight into the router/modem?

Have you got another cable router you can try?

Don't virgin supply Netgear routers?

Yep, when we use wireless it causes problems.

Done tests direct to modem, with excellent results.

When done wirelessly, the tests often fail to complete, going up so far, then tailing off.

I didnt know they supplied any routers?

The router is shite then imo.
Spend some money and get a decent modem/router... or try sending it back.

I dont like netgera (because of the shite support), but have always found the wireless modem/routers to be fine for home use.

The router i'm using is a belkin one? thought they would be ok?

Like i say though, this has only started happening since she got a new laptop, is it more powerfull, taking more of the signal than mine?
