I have a 1998 clio grande, basically ive one of my keys. The key ive lost would only open the drivers door, the key i still have is used to start the ignition and also unlocks the passanger door (and not the drivers).

so i am able to get in the passangers door and start the car, but unable to open my drivers door.

so the question is, why wont my key open the drivers door, but can start the ignition? its a pain in the arse. and what options are there for getting a key that does everything?

thanks for your help, sorry for the complicated essay

Someone has spanked it and got a drivers door from a scrapper and used the scrappers lock and key

go to the Renault dealer, if you give them your VIN number they should sell you a locking barrel for the drivers door that will match the other barrels

Just get whatever you need from a scrap yard.

Find one with all the ocks intact and take the lot, then you only need 1 key for the car

Or you could take the barrel out of the passengers side door and slap it in the drivers side, smooth passengers side off and hey presto you have a smooth door and one key that works with both ignition and door

Possibly, but coding isnt cheap.

On those keys, not including the cost of the actual key, and after providing some photo ID and the V5C, my friendly Renault garage will code the key for £45.
You'd need to make sure that the key is the right one for the car, and that it's definitely a blank key, and they might not be as generous, but it's an option.

I'd swap the driver and passenger locks over. If you're handy with a spanner it'll be easy enough. It was when I changed the door and swapped the lock over on the Laguna, anyway.

Just get a barrel from another Clio of similar age and get a locksmith to change the pins to match your other locks.

My mate did it for me so all barrels now use the same key.
