Right just been to look at a c20xe corsa that a friend of mine owned for a while then sold to his cousin who didnt drive it much, the mot ran out like 1 - 2 months ago so it has just been sat. previous to this he had a new gear box put in and the garage said its leads were a bit buggered but he never did anythin about them and just didnt drive it due to mot. wen he fired it up it is spluttering and banging, black smoke coming out of exhaust followed by some flames  im no mechanic but i dont think that seems to good... it sounds like its misfiring also at like 3000 - 4000 rpm upwards. (dunno if this would make a difference but wen he first bought the car it was suppost to of been cammed but no reciepts to prove all i no is it seemed to hit 5000 rpm n start pullin harder) it was fast up to that anyway like. just need advice on what anyone think this could be as i am thinkin of gettin it this weekend 
also this car did used to run really smoothly and reliably less than 1 yr ago.
all advice would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like its over fueling, prob just a sensor, I'm sure black smoke is fuel and blue smoke means your burning oil.

dont think it has took to much abuse but i couldnt say for sure, could it be misfiring due to leads, plugs, diz cap... etc?

new leads and plugs and see fit like.
sounds like a nail though, needed new leads,oh, but i ll just run it anyway.

How much you going to pay for it?
Another C20XE is only £300 and you'll have everything there to swap it over if it's a dog.
