EDIT: the videos taken on the day are now up and can be viewed: Here
yet again i was out and about for another autosolo this time at Strensham Services on the M5/M50 organised by the CMSGCC (Cotswold Motor Sport Group Competitors Club) so called the RosSolo
i came a respectable second in class in my MX5, my best result so far in my Solo career!
i was double driving with my friend Rich (the one wearing the hat) as it was a fair distance to travel and thus save on cost decided to share the car, which will explain why there are two people driving the black MX5 in the photos!
for those who dont know about Solo'ing motor sport it is not a new sport although seen only on a small scale in the UK. a series of "tests" (typically four in a day) are laid out using cones which drivers have three attempts to get their fastest time around, taking the fastest two forward. penalties are awarded for missing a cone (Wrong test = max time, shown as 999.0 on the results) or for hitting a cone (+5s per cone). typical duration is 60-75s per test. there is no limits on the type of car you can enter other than it must be driven to the event (thus should be insured) and have a valid MOT and tax. the car is classed dependant on type and engine size and the competition run between classes as well as fastest times overall. a very fun, cheap and socailable sport.
