Basically Ive been reading around and its all very confusing. Can I get a tax disc for a motor vehicle if I have no V5, and Ive sent the V5C away to the DVLA so I can get a log book (they have acknowledged receipt of the V5C)? Can I take that acknowledgement letter in and apply for a tax disc for the vehicle? Its no longer insured but Ive still got the cover notes so it will still 'look' insured......

I think to tax online you need the reminder ID # as well as the V5 number.
Thinking back I couldnt tax it last time cos the insurance company sent the cover note with a number wrong What a predicament

You need the V5, a valid mot cert and insurance.
IF you dont have the full V5, you need the green slip thst comes with it. If you dont have that then your screwed, you cant do it online either as you need the V5 issue number.
Only way to do it is to appl for a V5 whilst taxing it, this costs an extra £19.50
Just run it without a tax disc mate, you get a months grace on it before the dvla will fine you.
