Utter drivel. MOT stations are not equipped with db meters and neither are police officers in my experience.
I used this info to my benefit when accused by traffic police of having a too loud exhaust a few years ago.

How can it be utter drivel? I have told you what the MOT book says, and it clearly states in there.
Have you not read the rest of the post
I would not worry mind you as its been law for a while now an its down to how "to the book" your MOT tester is.

Sick of dismissing this, Comes up eery couple of months.
MOT stations have had the ability to fail an overly loud car for years, and they will do so if it's way over the top.
The won;t noise test it, it's down to the testers discretion.
They are not about to spend millions across thr country so that they can fail a few more cars, it isn't viable.
Same to the guy who was going on about lowering.
The don;t fail your car for being lowered, they wil fail it if it's too low to get onto the ramp or if the wheel is fouling the arches or any other part of the bodywork,
They wil not start noise testing cars on MOT's and they will not fail cars for being lowered.

I wasn't replying to anything you'd said Beardy. I was replying to the original post. As I said, utter tosh in my experience.
