Starting looking for my winter work hack as seem to be racking up the miles more with work at the moment and dont want to use the BMW in the bad weather really.
Have found a rover 420 SDI which is a 2.0 diesel, looked at the stats and does around 55mpg and a 0-60 of 10.2 which i didnt think was to shy!
Not to much of a looked but the one i have found looks tidy, 90K and MOT and tax till next year. Is there anything obvious to look out for on these or they best to stay well clear of?
This is the one in question

Shame you'll never find out because you'll be lucky if it can go 30 miles without breaking down

I'd say 45MPG is more realistic.
IIRC clutches on these were prone to going?

Not looked into that, but not a bad thought!!
I was looking initially for a 306, but only want to spend £500 on something with MOT and tax which is hard to find with a 306!! Also dont have long to look as tax and insurance is out on the BMW at the end of the month and away for the last week of the month to!

306 diesels are good but are overpriced for what they are.

I drive one of these but the petrol version.good on fuel, comfortable drive even if it is a rover....

Thats mine, only A 1.4 16V but suprisingly nippy for a little engine in a big car

Mate of mine has got a 200 diesel, the 105bhp version with an intercooler. I guess it'll be the same engine in the 400?
If so, my mate has had no major problems at all with it in 2 years of ownership, a coolant pipe developed a tiny hole in it recently a new one was a tenner from a scrappy and it took about 15mins to fit.
Fuel wise he was getting about 100-110 miles to a tenner, though that was with loads of tools in the back and booting it everywhere.

Don't get an R reg Green one, it may have been my dads which we put a bake bean can on the exhaust with a few clamps to get it through emissions on the MOT
