i have a private plate on i want off
any way i could get the plate off the car with out having a valid MOT because the car has been sitting for about 4 year and just rotted so will never pass an MOT

Must have an MOT. And as its been off the road for so long (no VOSA record for X number of years) expect to get an inspection request if you do MOT it and request a transfer.

Think I read on the direct.gov website that there is a time limit if the car has been SORN for a bit and the MOT has expired. I think it's only a year though.

what do you mean inspection request ?
That will request that you take the car to your local DVLA office to make sure the MOT is legit.
