well the corsa was booked in for its first service as it was a year old, the girlfriend drove it while i followed her in my new astra (got it two weeks ago), while i was driving there lost all my coolant in the astra, so ended up leaving both cars there, but thats not the end of it. the manage said they would service the corsa while i wait so i could drive home, once got the corsa home after the service i could smell burning oil, pulled up, opened the bonnet to be welcomed by a cloud of smoke and the engine bay cover in oil. the cause of the mess was down to the missing oil cap, which turned up in the battery tray, and there was no way it could of popped off. rang them up, told them to come and collect and fix it, and all i got was "dont speak to me like that and i will ring you back later." they collect the car and us and it was all cleaned and fixed, without so much as a refund or even a sorry. then rang cargiant where i got my astra from, there willing to pay for the coolant fault on the astra.

upside to the day is my log book coming through for my old corsa b which is now up for sale

Why would they refund you Fair enough it should never have happened that the oil cap came off, but a lot of garages would plead ignorance.

they couldve been bastards and not refunded or even helped you tbh...

is it not up to you to have a quick check before you set off anyway?

plus itd be hard to prove they left it like that.. could easily be you took the cap off to try and sue etc etc....

not siding with them btw..

My oil cap popped off a fortnight ago, it hadn't been touched for 3 weeks since I last changed the oil, and then randomly threw itself off, covering the engine bay in oil.

It could quite easily have thrown itself off or not have been fitted properly, could have been one or the other.

thats my point, i have never heard of oil caps popping off, but the mechanic who serviced it did admit that he left off.

as for the people are saying i shouldnt get a refund, but when you pay £140 for a service, you dont expect that kind of service, i wouldnt mind if i even had a sorry from someone, but i dont expect that to happen

since its a vauxhall dealer they are bound to do nothing, if it was a porsche, bmw, mercedes dealer for instance they would have given you free car cleaner or money off your next service or something.

Judging by the way the person on the phone responded to you, you obviously weren't that polite to them down the phone. If you want situations like that to play your own way then there are ways of dealing with situations like that. All in all though, you got the car fixed and cleaned, what more do you want? I don't see how you're elligable for a refund when the car is now perfectly servicable.

totally agree with you.

as for ed, i wasnt rude to her down the phone at all, and i wasnt even rude to her once i saw her at the garage afterwards. im a mechanic, when things like this happened at work, we were always very sorry and looked at how bad the problem was, in sitiuations like this we would offer a full refund on the labour, this way its has kept the owner of the car happy and there would be a high chance they would come to us. as for cleaning the car, yes the engine was cleaned up, but theres oil hands all over the body work...and now for the update

UPDATE: even though they said they had fixed it, oil light came on tonight, so back to the garage for the third, considering it was ment to be a little service...wonder whats going to happen to astra

Obviously they don't just come off, unless they weren't on properly to start with, just impossible.

as sand-eel said they just cannot come off like that, i think in this case the oil cap was left on the battery.

Get yourself a 1.6 Ford CVH then and the bastards pop off when you go for a spirited drive!

Tbh it was an accident, ive done a few things like that in my career and in a busy workshop environment its easily overlooked. If somoeone got arsey with me on the phone i wouldnt help them but if they told me politely id either drive to them and sort it or knock them some money off the next time they came in.
