Not sure what to do here. Years ago when at the place I used to work the boss had a spare private plate which got registered to my car. I have since left a few years ago and he is no longer in this country etc.
Got someone coming to look at the car tomorrow that may want to buy it. How would I go about getting this place off the car, im not sure I can as surely my ex boss is still the "owner" as such?

This is ture. Also it takes a while to take them off as they have to assign the car a new reg etc, so if you sell it and want to keep the plate you will have to come to some agreement with the new owner. You will probably have to give him some money towards him changing the details of his insurance etc one he owns the car and when the plate gets taken off etc.

Actually look at the forms I have a feeling I am only a nominee and ex boss is still a grantee - is this possible? Car isnt taxed or insured at the moment

is the plate on the car?
if so, and the car is in your name, then ONLY YOU have rights to the plate
old retention certificates mean nothing, does not matter whos names are on it as the plate now belongs to a car not a person
IF it is on retention, both names on it can assign it to a new car

example....
my old retention certificate has some guy from Ireland on it as I bought the plate off him...but now its on my car the plate belongs to the car its on, which is in my name and thus has no connection with who I bought the plate off

I'm sure mine took ages, as did the tax back claim. That was 2 months ago and putting the plate onto retention.

Cost £80 to transfer or £105 to put on retention..
Takes just over a week to do the transfer but will take up to 4 weeks for the V5C to go through.
