i went to have a look at a 106 rallye s2 today in glacier white
88,000miles 4 owners (2 was a man and his partner)
bits of service history missing. the car was nice but when you got closer to it, you could notice a couple of things, the car had had a blow over, but not on the roof, inside, engine bay the paint its self job was good but there was bits of overspray here and there. the car drove well and went well for a 1.6 8v but the fact it had a spray put me off. it was up for £2,000 and he wouldn't go any lower, so i left it at that.
not the actuall car, nice pic to steal

going to keep looking see if a nice one pops up

Playing devils advocate here, what's the difference between a Rallye and a Gti apart from the engines, if you just took some of the extra stuff out? Surely a stripped out GTi would be the better car with a more tunable engine?
They seem to have a bit of a Porsche GT3 RS price structuring where you pay more for less?!?

Different engine, interior and a few other bits and bobs and rallyes hold their value very well.

Details:
I've owned the car for about a year and ahalf now and its proberly been on the road for half my ownership, being off the road for the engine rebuild and put away over winter in a barn.
The engine was rebuilt by myself and someone i work with under 8,000miles ago, everythink has been changed/replaced (from gaskets to pistons rings, bearings and the alternator... everythink apart from the main bits (crank, pistons, cams) Extremely fresh engine which runs perfect, it has cams in it from the previous owner but i cant prove this, but its deffently quicker than a standard engine, the head was skimmed by 5thou with a standard headgasket used, I also fitted a new clutch and the flywheel was skimmed, lightened and balanced. I have receipts for the whole build and pictures to prove the work. The engine bay was also rust proofed and repainted white, although its abit dirty now!
Details:
1998 S2 rallye,
White,
84000miles,
11months MOT and 6months Tax
Spec list:

Uprated Cams
Induction and Breathing:
Raceland Enclosed induction,
Green air filter,
Samco hose,
Viper performance Catch tank
Exhaust:
Raceland 4-2-1 Manifold
All Cats and silencers removed (straight through)
4 inch Rear back box
Suspension, Wheels, Tyres & Brakes:
Lowered 30mm all around
15 inch White Oz Superturismo
Toyo T1-Rs (front 2 are nearly new)
Interior & ICE:
MOMO steering wheel
Centre button surround painted white
Bad points:
I'l be honest as i dont want to waste anyones time who may look at the car and notice things they weren't expecting
-Decals are slightly faded and could do with some new ones to bring it back to life
-Kurb mark on the N/S/F wheel, and i under-estimated the power of a jet wash, some laquare has come of the wheels, not noticable unless u look for it though
-Gearbox is abit 'whiney' in 2nd,3rd,4th but the gears are still very tight and doesnt crunch at all(some gearbox additive mite get rid of this)
-Front bumper has a slight scuff,
-wing mirrors could do with a repaint
Now ive tried to be brutely honest and hope acouple of the bad points hasnt put u off a solid car.
Im based in Hook (next to basingstoke)
£2650ovno
Pictures:
these were from alittle while ago (please ignore the cage and sticker in window as these are removed/gone)

THIS PICTURE WAS FROM LAST WEEK

Good choice, I'm biased though a few choice mods and the rallye will be far more capable.

Bits and bobs are only cosmetic though are they not (Steelies and deleted fogs being the most noticable?). Are they any suspension changes like on the Clio Cups?
I know they hold there value well, but I presume it's relative to the purchase price and comparible to the Gti? It just seems like you can get a similar car for half the price?

Nope, they are the same suspension wise too, just cosmetic. Far better off getting a GTI, better tuning base, strip it out and you will easy reach the same weight as the rallye.

Thought as much. If nothing else with a GTi you can sell the interior to someone with a 1.1 and buy yourself some buckets - you'll be well on the way then!

Yeah as Chris said, you could buy a GTI for a fair bit less and spend the money on breather mods.
