If it increases the fueling how does it improve consumption?

Not 100% clued up on how the box works but I'm syure the ecu will up boost to match the fuelling.
You get better economy because the engines not working as hard at low revs so you dont have to be as heavy footed. As above not totall clued up on the ins and outs of it but I'm getting about 6 or 7mpg extra just now.

I'm going to look into getting one of these. 200bhp and decent economy isn't to be sniffed at.

thats a load of tripe.
z19dt engine is an 8v single cam engine, which is 120ps.
z19dth/r engine is a 16v twin cam engine which is 200ps.
my brothers z19dth has a green ecu tuning box, and did 197 on the rr, apparently 390ft/lb but i dont see that being possible.
what pish are you talking?
the dt is an 8v 120, i know, its sitting in my drive
the z19dth is the 16v 150 engine, there is no 200ps engine in the astra as standard?
untill 2006 the 120 engine was a detuned z19dth which came with the engine code z19dtj
z19dtr is the engine code used for the 180 engine in the saab so i dont see why your mentioning it here?
sorry i was gettin 200ps jumbled with brothers. dth are 150 bhp.
when i was at vaux, the z19dt was 120ps, and dth was 150.
all the 150's i worked on when doing swirl valve replacements were 16v. never saw a 8v 150. gettin far too jumbled up here!

z19dt/z19dth both run the same bottom end just different head
so of the 120's seem to be quicker than some 150's iv been in
its strange how sometimes you can get a quick one, and not so qiuck
if you ever look at RR's even some standard 150's make 160-170hp

no where in this thread does it mention a 8v with 150 as standard though?
to simplify -
Z19DT - 1.9CDTi 8v 120ps
Z19DTJ - 1.9CDTi 16v 120ps
Z19DTH - 1.9CDTi 16v 150 ps

your right on how it improves economy but the ecu isnt altering anything and the boost doesnt change, the box basicly just takes the signal from the ecu and changes it to up the fueling

It doesn't just up the fueling, it adjusts it, which in most cases will be upping it.
The fuel economy doesn't really go up in my experience either.
There will be a possibbility if you drive it a certain way but I've never managed with a box or a remap.
Don't believe what the mpg display says either, the remap on my toledo means that the mpg is about 20% out.

how can adjusting the fueling but not raising the boost add 50bhp? you get motech to remap a diesel and thats exactly what they do but more on a custom level. this box just seems like a generic remap to me

just adds more fuel
a remap would make it drive more like a petrol (if thats what you wanted) might make less power but would be faster....

The ECU will be able to compensate for more fuel, I'd assume quite a bit in this engine if you are getting 50bhp, although the box isn't upping the boost the ecu could be to compensate.
That's a guess though, I'm not 100% sure on that engine.

like i said, i dont know the technical ins and outs, but yes it only changes the fueling and could be compaired with a generic remap
for me, if a car is under warranty then a remap is not a viable option, the box is

If I get one i'm getting a remap.
Normal map with sport button off for driving to work, sport button on for the weekends.

i would get a remap if it wasnt for the warranty, and that i got a second hand green box for a very cheap price, there is much more than can be done with a map like by passing the EGR system, not givving the car full power when cold etc.

ive not been through a full tank yet but i seem to be getting more economy too, i normally ignore the range counter as it never seems to be too acurate
im getting between 40 and 45 mpg with mixed driving

How do you know you are getting that if you've not been through a full tank?
I hope not going by the computer, which will now be miles out.
Is that why people think they get better economy?

no i dont trust what the computer says, i worked that out from what i normally get from a half tank which is between 220 and 260 miles

I've been working my mpg out by mileage and fuel reciepts.. My computer isn't that far out with the box on though.
Just done 70 miles of mixed driving this morning and the computers claming 51mpg, will be slightly lower than that in reality but not too shabby.

Dont have a clue how these tuning boxes work but just by turning the fuel up on my old 306Dturbo,it upped the boost to around 1.2bar.
