The dude who owns the Golf is about 35, he's a sergeant in the RAF and a bit of a perfectionist by all accounts.
I generally believe him with what he's told me.. obviously I expect the car to have had some of the common problems throughout its life but if it saves me a job too then why not?

mine was up for 1250 iirc with intentions of being knocked down, said to myself I'd take no less than 1000 and I'd already sold the cage

People moan about milage but the car I'm buying is on a lot more than the Corsa.. lol, drives and sounds bloody like half of it though Very tight and quiet car. Mind you new engine mounts, bushes etc help.
Gonna have to take a hit obviously but I can't see where I'm miles out when other folks are advertising similar cars on here for 1500+ and don't get knocked for it one bit.
Ah well such is life. Ta for the feedback anyway guys tis appreciated
As a sidenote, 2250 for the Golf.. does it sound fair? It's one of the cheapest for the quality of car that I've viewed... still 10 years old mind. But what can you do? When they're worth it you can't avoid paying it if you want one bad enough and to be fair most at that price point honestly have been dogs when I've viewed them.

The Golf has more miles on? No wonder he's had to change things, if they've not failed completely, they were about to.
Tell me why if you're willing to take a hit on your car because of the mileage you're still willing to pay over the odds for a 10 year old Golf?
I would have yours up at a grand offers and I would ask the other guy when he wants his 1950.

Ian, the things I mention such as window regulators, rear wash wipe pipes coming off, random bits and bobs like that are all mega common on golfs, they aint as reliable as many would think.
It drives better than my Corsa which in itself drives well anyway
They just don't sell for 1950 mate believe me I've been looking for a long time now. They hold their money something chronic, and it's hugely annoying but thats just the way it goes.
If it wasn't a 20v turbo it'd be a lot cheaper.
I either miss out on the best car I've viewed thus far or keep my Corsa for even longer, I'm 28 - I hate the stigma despite the car being decent. I just want to move on now but not at a huge loss, I aint wealthy enough to warrant it

Well it sold this morning. I dropped my price on ebay to 1250 and sold it for £1100. Bit gutted but such is life, spent a lot of money on that lil car and it rewarded me with hassle free motoring for 2.5 years.

That's not a bad result on the Corsa. Just don't forget to haggle the Golf down to sensible money for that mileage.
If you go there thinking they hold their money and it's a must-have deal you're going to spend too much.
Go there thinking it's too expensive and if you don't buy it then no one else will. You need to not want it. The same things that went through your head when you sold your car are going through his, hold that thought.

What you said about being tight buying the golf worries me tho, can be very expensive to fix when they go wrong, not the sort of car to be buying if money is an issue. Good news on the corsa, did look very clean and you got a cracking price for it all things considered
