Going to try and get into selling and buying cars for abit so im going to have a look at a saxo tomorrow.

Spec :
1999 vts blue
16'' alloys
sub, amp, headunit
dtm mirrors
backbox
no mot
no tax

Guy said it failed on lamba sensor so that wont be a problem and he's selling due to company car.

Had a look on the bay but a few are classified ads and they always charge over the moon.

What price would you be looking to pay for it?

If it were that easy to make money on it then why isn't the guy who is selling doing it?

Odds are it's something more as well, make sure you check the fail sheet and see the entire list not just one thing he tells you.

And don't pay too much. It'll cost you at least 40 quid for a MOT and 100 quid for some tax. Plus whatever it needs to pass. And it'll still only be worth 800 quid, and that is before you've even advertised it anywhere.

just remember a car can pass an MOT but still have some issues which would need sorting.

so dont just go in assuming on sensor then bang sell for a profit

£300 for the car, £300 budget to get it to sale standards and that gives you a £200-£300 profit on the car.

Wouldnt want to pay over 4 for it myself. if you pay 5 you wont make a good profit on it. Like i said you have to budget for underlying problems.

tax is £100 for 6 months.

The cars worth 700-800 max so 500 isnt going to make you any profit. offer 350 and go no higher than 400

I don't know tbh mate, I will say though, my Dad used to buy and sell cars. He aought things that looked good condition but needed tidying up, ie a t-cut / polish and some new wheel trims. Would watch allsorts of cars, mainly small engined corsas and 106s etc, things that someone would just want as a run around for a few months etc. Just wathed them until end of auction and drop a bid. Then most of the time could easily make £100-£200 on a car.

Don't think you will make money on every car though, my Dad lost money a few times, but mostly made money. Says the credit crunch killed it, with no-one buying.

Just have a go mate, but keep a budget in your head, look at the car and ask yourself if it would make you the money you want to make, without costing you too much to tart up.

Tax and MOT are obviously a bonus, but my Dad does all his own work to our cars anyway so it wasn't much of a problem to mot a car if little needed doing

I got my VTS that I used for a donor car, with 10 months MOT and 2 months tax, for a lot less than any prices quoted in this thread.

VTS's are usually quite cheap really, its the GTI's that are well overpriced.
