I've been looking at these with the intention of switching it to run on twin carbs. The only inlet manifolds I have managed to find to do this are made for 40's. I'd have thought you'd need to use 45's on these engines?
So, what would be best? Try the 40's or keep looking for a manifold which is right for some 45's... I could probably make one up if it came to it, but then I might have to pay someone to do some of the work for me

Find out about work on Wednesday so there ought to be funding to get the thing done I want to be able to show off the work Tom's done in the engine bay so an 8v on carbs would take up the least space as well as making a bit of noise...

well, they are great engines to play with if you geta decent one...

i am getting rid of mine soon, and i've run bike carbs on it for the last 8 months...been brilliant, just the bottom end is hammered.
I will have an inlet available for R1 carbs in the near future if you are interested and also a ported and polished, newman cammed head.
Its been great and i am only getting rid of it because it costs as much to get the bottom end rebuilt as it would to get an XE off a friend, so thats my decision.
The bike carbs mean less maintainance and a better cold start, but the noise is still there, and still great!
Any questions though, feel free to ask.

Bike carbs are far superior, easier to set up and balance too.
