Hey all right im thinking of buying a car ive seen on impulse...its a 1995 GSi. I used to own a 1998 sport...and gathered that vauxhall changed summat between 95 and 98 to this undersealing/painting methods that sorted out rust that u usually find this true...
anyways basically looking for any problems i should look out for when buying a gsi, havent owned the corsa for a good year or so and tbh ive forgotten what went wrong on corsa's in general. any quick help wud be great thinking of biting a hand off for this one

Rust, in the afore mentioned places, plus wiper and bottom of the spoiler.
They also have head gasket failure too so check for ay signs of overheating or mayonaise oil caps.
Gearbox is another weak point so make sure it doesnt whine in gear as they can munch diffs.

as said above, check for smoke also as they tend to burn a bit of oil when higher milage.
never had any probs with gearbox's on std engines though

Ive had 2 standard ones where the gearbox gave up on them. Through neglect and wheelspins etc more than likely but they still popped.
Yeah smoke is an issue, the bores can go oval in them so make sure you stay well clear if it kicks out blue smoke on heavy throttle.
Off throttle blue smoke means the stem seals are going which is common, but not a cheap job to get done if you cant do it yourself.

its a red one by the way scott...if i get my hands on it will look just like ures...got softstars and suspension already

i bought one with low miles and it was abit of a dog underneath. spent days grinding away rust, it had been used to go down the shops etc then left in the garage and slowly over the years got abit rotten

I've not had any problems, got a tiny rustspot on the boot that I'm taking care of...
my gearbox hasn't give up on me yet it's f13 but I don't dip the clutch enough when I change gear and end up getting that crunching noise at least once a day. Anyway my gearbox hasn't give up on me yet. lol despite the abuse

Can't say I've ever head of massive issues with F13 or F15 gearboxes going.

My old corsa sport is touching 130k with a fooked clutch, has been around the tracks, and local private roads on the limit, and its fine

I had a 12v when I first passed my test and I knackered a standard gearbox and the f15 I replaced it with, (although that was off a high miler)
