(Sorry no pic just in need of insurance advice)

It was outside my work when it happened but i didnt realise till i got to the petrol station on the way home. I spoke to security the next day to get hold of CCTV but they took AGES and kept saying about data protection blah blah... A week and a half past with no cctv evidence and i was beginning to think i would have to repair it myself when i get a phonecall out the blue from a lady called Sara who drives a Mini (with Parking sensors) telling me it was her who revered into my car. You can imagine how delighted i was as im ****** skint right now.

Anyway what i want to know is roughly how much a new bonnet will cost for a corsa b in rio verde and where i would get the parts? Ideally i would like a new bonnet there is no way the dents are coming out as one is a line dent paints come away and its just a mess.

Do you think i should offer her settlement outside of insurance or not? (will speed it up right)?

Should i contact MY insurance company? If so WHY?

How many quotes will i need to get and does it matter if i get a quote for a new bonnet then quotes for a respray in rio verde if i cannot find a rio verde bonnett?

Cheers lads.

Bonnet £25 scrappers
Paint - £50-100
Hassle - £50

Ask her for a cheque for £250, if she wont pay, go through your insurance.

ask hr to pay for the damage.

if she refuses, then phone your insurance. don't phone your insurance if she pays up because it will go down as an acident then and your premium will be messed up for the net few years.

its not your fault so just take it to a reputable bodyshop for an estimate, they may find other damage, give the estimate to the woman to either pay herself or give to her insurance, you only need one quote just say that is the bodyshop you want to use,
dont take a out of settlement check, you will get a courtesy car too as it was a non fault accident

ide go for the £250 mark just because of the hassel but about the cctv and them saying data protection thats wrong all recordings made withing a public area have to be disclosed if asked for so seek a little compo of security as well

It's all well and good saying go through insurance, but a 'normal' corsa b is worth fk all to insurance, so if the bodyshop bill is nearing £3-500 (which at a mainstream bodyshop it could!) then the insurance could even write the car off.

just got off the phone to her, she claims there was no damage when she looked after hitting my car but theres clearly a couple of dents along with a scratch and i believe the grill is also slightly bent. She is obviously trying to pull a fast one lol.

Ive arranged to meet her at the place it happened on friday to discuss it further and for her to witness the damage.

Still unsure what to do... insurance or settlement and what would be a fair deal.

Ill post some pics up later of the damage see what you lot think. Im nearly certain the bonnet cannot be repaired as its too fucked.

honestly i wouldnt go through insurance mate.. seen b's being cat d wright off's because they have a knocked front wing and lamp.
its amazing what they will do now a days to get cars off the road.

your best bet is to go down scrappers and pick up some second hand parts that are in good nick.

i would say
bonet (could find one in the right colour) £40
grill most probably £10

not much at all and will save your insurance premiums

I have a feeling shes going to say to me, well if your car hadnt of been so low i would of judt hit your bumper... my car is 60mm at the front but looks more like 80mm tbH. the dents are just above the grill aswell. Anyway... cheers for the advice lads im going to say to her £250 outside and im happy otherwise go through insurance... ill update this thread on friday once ive spoken to her.

Oh 1 more question, is there anything i can get from her so she cant do a runner because technically i have no evidence other than her word as i still dont know if the incident was caught on cctv....

Makes fuck all difference how low your car is, no excuse for poor obs and especially with sensors . Could have just as easily been a moped/quad/kids bike behind the car. Doesn't mean you just keep reversing.

PS - She doesn't know it wasn't caught on CCTV

Tell her that you'll report her to the Police for leaving the scene of an accident... and then let them deal with it.

go through insurance if they write it off, you get a payout for the car, then you can buy the car back off of the insurance company and then use the money they paid out to have the car repaired. . . will more than likely have a bit of spare cash left over from the payout winner

they do have to be disclosed, but not to any random member of the public etc that asks for them. In scenarios like this it would be the police that would tend to seize it if they were unwilling to show you. Then police would get involved with leaving the scene etc depending on a few things....
