The Missus and I have the opprtunity to purchase an nice little Holiday home at a bargin price but in order to do so we need to free up around £200-£300 per month and the most logical savings to us is our cars. So for me I'm looking for something reliable, reasonable performace, no older the 3 years and no more the £12K-£13K. Had been considering a Mini Cooper S or a Clio 197 however I'm not sure I could live with something that small and the fact i couldn't get my Golf clubs in! So feel free to enlighten me as to what there is available

apologies for the length of the link

You'll be suprised with a holiday home how much stuff there is to move around at the start/end of the season and the Audi swallows up everything

Really not too keen on the Fabia although I've heard they are quite tuneable, as for the A3 I must admit I had never really considered one however that does look very nice, think the mileage of that particular example would but me off though.
My mate keeps going on about about a Diesel Leon Cupra saying they can be remapped to over 200bhp with ease, any one had any experiance, sound like it could be an interesting option?

The leon will be able to be mapped to about 200 with ease, anything over that you need more mods.

52k is high mileage on a 3 year old car whether the engine can last longer or not.

If the car has been serviced properly mileage is irrelivant.. I'd rather buy a well maintained high mileage car than a low mileage one thats been skimped on

I don't really understand your logic that in order to buy a holiday home and save money, you are buying a 12k car?

What dont you follow? I have worked out that I can reduce my monthly outgoings by approximately £150/month if I limit myself to a budget of £12K-£13K when I change my car.

Are we talking about 12-13k of actual cash or 12-13k of finance? If its cash then keep your current car and be 12-13k better off, if its finance then you are an idiot

Could get a very very nice Focus for £13k, with lots of warranty remaining!
Would be that performance orientated though.

So you want to save money but your "BUDGET" is £13k of money you havent got.. That just cracks me up! Ridiculous unlogical decisions like that are a perfect example of why the worlds finances are so fucked up

The money I would be saving on my monthly car payments would go into paying a very small mortgage on a lovely property which will supply many a great family holiday for years to come whilst still being able to afford a relatively decent car worth around £12K, what the fuck is illogical about that?

if Davey finds it illogical then that means its a great idea.
If you can afford the repayments theres nothing wrong with finance.

for 8 or 9k you could have a st220, save some cash, 226bhp, room for family and golf clubs and have probably 07 reg or so.

Infact for 13k you can get a brand new 09 plate Impreza WRX. Bit ugly but you'll get over it
