Hi,
Right i havent done many Cambelt's before,But i felt i would tackle mine on my X16XE.I have got it on and all timed up Etc but i having a bit of a thick momemt with the Massive Bottom Pulley that bolts into the Crank....You know the one

Anyhow 1st of,This is the Crank Pulley yeah? Its for the Fan Belt i think as it goes on the Alternator & Proberly the PAS Pulley?

If it is what is the Torque Setting and how do i Torque it up?Do i have to Hold the Camshaft? If so Inlet or Exhaust?Or can i just torque it up and it wont matter if EVERYTHING move's round because it's Timed?

Sorry if this doesnt make sense but im in a massive rush.Need to get my Engine built up TONIGHT!

Any Help much Apreciated!!

Thanks
Craig

the crank pulley should hopefully be on already if the cambelt is on, its the small pulley rite at the bottom off the engine on the end of the crankshaft.

the big pulley your on about is the aux belt pulley, becarfull with this as you will noitice on the end of the crank there is a bit sticking up out of the circle, a keyway, the pulley you have in your hand also has a slot out of it that has to match up to this,
make sure these arnt worn at all! will cause your engine to run like shit and lack in performance.

once youve got the pulley on get your bolt on and easyist way if you have air is to just gun it on of if not put it in gear and do it up

Yes thats the one im going on about (Aux Pulley) The Engine is out of the Car so putting it in Gear isnt an Option also im using Hand Tools (No Air)

So how can i tighten it up now?Ive tried holding the Camshaft but that isnt working?

Why did you remove that? It is a specialist job to torque that up. And it is higher than most standard torque wrenches go up to.

Most people just remove the aux drive pulley

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Ste - It was removed already when i got the Engine.

It's not actually torqued that much (95 NM 30' 45') its just aqward to do it.

I have now done it though although it wasnt easy & Proberly not 100% acurate as i dont have a Angle Gauge or Air Gun.

When i do my next Engine Overhaul i am most deffo going to buy all the proper tools/Equipment & Take my Time Etc.As ive said im on a really tight time scale to get it finished off and put in so rushing really doesnt Help.

Thanks for your Help Guys.We will see what happens

Craig

that isnt the pulley on an x16xe you have to remove the centre bolt, not the small torx around the edges liek xe's
