Do you...
a) Look for a minter. Low miles, top condition in and out, engine been serviced and cambelt changed etc. In this situation you're obviously gonna be paying top dollar. Or,
b) Try and get one maybe a bit rough, don't care about smaller dents or scratches. Ripped seats doesn't bother you. Little or no service history etc. but you can get it for cheap and fix it up!
Personally I've always gone for b) apart from my last car, but I kinda feel gutted that I paid top dollar for it! Having a perfect car is just no fun lol, I like getting some rough and building it up into how I want it so next so, bring on the roughness again

I'm never buying new again, but I'd never buy one that needed work. I've had a few new cars and was gutted on sale how much they lost. I was lucky I got my LCR a year old with only 2500 miles on the clock and 5K cheaper than the owner had purchased it for. That was when car prices were good. There is some real bargains about on nearly new cars now.

Always go for mint condition. If you buy a rough one it'll probably end up costing you the same if not more to get it tidy than just buying the mint one in the 1st place.

I'm with Matty G
My car isn't perfect but out of all the ones I looked at it was the best of the lot.
I don't have the time and money to buy a wreck and fix it.

I only ever buy good examples, that might not be the shiniest looking one though and doesn't necessarily need full history although, or even running 100% when you buy it.
Just need to know what you're looking for.
I wouldn't buy something that wasn't 100% if I didn't know enough about it.

I always aim for the best obviously. But I'll make compromises.
I got the Rex with a few paintwork issues as the interior was very good and the chassis was solid. Also being a special edition it was worth investing a bit.
And due to the few niggles I found, I knocked over a grand off the asking price.
