Can you have more than one policy of insurance for a car?
i.e. I'm going on holiday and my sis wants to get her insurance to insure her on my car.
Is it possible?

I've always wondered what would happen if you insured one car with two or three separate policies.
If you wrote the car off, would they all have to pay out?
Or would the other two not pay out because the other company claimed the car for salvage/scrap

You can't, best bet is your insurance covering her.

You could end up with nobody paying out, what one would want to take responsibility.

DayInsure.com allow it, so I can't see it being illegal. The insurance company might refuse to do it though, Direct Line did when I tried to insure my Mum's car on my policy before she went away.
If her company won't do it, she can use DayInsure.

Here's the breakdown.
Every car can have only one insurance policy related to it, same as it can only have one registered keeper.
However, provided it has its own policy, someone else whose policy specifically states that they are insured to drive someone elses car with their permission is also covered, but usually only third party.
If you want her to share the same level of cover as you, you have to add her as a named driver to your policy.

Dayinsure will only cover you for upto 28 days, it's strictly temporary. I've used it a couple of times to drive my dad's car when I've been in the UK.

Im sure you can have more than one policy for a car, but you can't claim on all policy's for one accident. As think about what happens when your car goes into the garage, their policy covers it for the employees to drive it and in case of theft too, while your personal policy still is valid

You shouldn't have more than one policy for a single car. In the event of a claim the two will cancel eachother out.
Add her to your policy.
