My MOT on my car ran out yesterday. I rarely use my car and have booked it in for its test next week whilst I am on holiday.
The only thing is I have booked it in back in Birmingham where my parents live and where I'm flying from. I know you are allowed to drive your car to the garage without the MOT but I need to drive to Birmingham to drop it off at my parents a few days before that.
What potentially could happen if I'm caught during the hour drive to Birmingham? Is there any allowance either side of the expire date?
Thanks

I am going to risk it just wondered what I could face if caught, I'm going to be driving back to Birmingham in the evening so haven't really got the option of saying I'm on the way to the garage now

You cant book an mot in birmingham if you live in oxford and count that as travelling to the test centre. Its only legal to do that if you drive it to the nearest mot test station or one within reasonable distance.
Worst case scenario is a £45 fine plus £35 court costs and a producer. Non endorsable offence and they cant confiscate your car either (assuming there isnt anything obviously wrong like tires etc).

Worst case scenario would be if you crash. Think your insurance will be void without valid MOT.

Correct.
Incorrect. If it made your insurance void you would get charged with no insurance too if your tax or mot had expired. Your 3rd party policy is never invalid so dont let anyone else tell you otherwise.
Its a non endorsable offence which means you cant get points.
Just watch out for police cruisers with anpr cameras as you will flag up on camera and they will give you a producer and a fine.
