Passat. stretch to a newer 55 plate onwards car if you can. But the old PD130 engine cars are still very good.

If you didn't mind going as small as a Fabia vRS they are really really good cars, seats might not be the best for kids though.

The limited edition ones all have leather, they will be a bit out of the price range though and don't have xenons or a couple of other options.
Seat surgeons leather was a popular mod though so very possible to find one with it
