When did diesel become virtually the same price as petrol? at my local BP petrol was 100.5p/litre and diesel was 102p/litre
I'm sure it was only recently that there was a 10-15p difference?

If diesel stays at pretty much the same price as petrol, it makes sense to buy one!

Probs the supermarket effect trying to keep it under £1 per litre, therefore putting petrol up to keep diesel low. It does seem strange as the duty is higher on diesel iirc. But fuel is going up in general due to 'city dickhead traders' gambling that the price will rise later in the year, after we bailed them out they are at it again

Diesel should cost less than petrol as typically heavier fuels cost less to refine. Can't say why its suddenly dropped in price, but I might go fill the car up

I understand where you are comming from, but im sure they state diesel costs more to refine.
But the only reason we get charged more at the pumps (well up untill a few weeks ago when there was a 10p difference) is the fact that diesel engines use less fuel, so if you buying less fuel your paying less fuel tax and vat. So on the stuff you do buy, the duty is high to pay for it.

It was only more expensive because there was less demand, I should think diesel numbers will pass petrol soon so it will become cheaper.
