My dad wants to sell the beemer for something more economical as he drives a long way to work every day.
Has to have a sensible boot, good fuel economy (petrol or diesel), he wont consider anything french. . .
So far looking at:
Honda Civic (newest model)
VW Passat estate 1.9tdi
VW Golf 2.0 tdi
Audi A4 Estate
Maybe a diesel 3 series bmw tourer

I know there are a few differences in size in there. He wasnt either a decent size hatchback or an estate. Any suggestions along the same lines or experiences with any of these cars?

ps budget is about 8k, and insurance is not much of an issue as he is 55 with max no claims

No experience of one, but how about a Mondeo ST TDCi.

yeah that looks like a good car, decent economy and still decent enough power to have a bit of fun
