Im just wondering how much it would cost me to put a 1.6 engine in a 1.2 sxi.
i was thinking of a 2.0 litre jobby but cant afford that.
what would i need?
Would i have to get it strengthed..and a new gearbox?
What do i need to keep from the old engine..and what do i need for the new.
Im a bit baffled to be honest dont know where to start.
A big list would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance Joe.

Depends on if your good with spanners really,
You could get a engine for around £150 - £300, Give it a good service and put it in and hope for the best, Or take the time, Rebuild the engine, new bearings, gaskets, seals, re hone, new rings ect, then you know you have a good engine.
These engines are incredibly strong from standard, and only need uprated parts if your planning on revving it past 7100 Rpm really, and there is no point in that unless you are running higher spec cams, or a power box or Individual throttles.
You will need a new radiator, and a new drivers side front mount, non pas or air con, Usually came off a Nova iirc. The loom will need some modification to work along side with the Sxi's Electronic power steering iirc too. The rest is just plug in and go.
Hope this helps

You wont need to strenghen (sp) anything if your only putting in a 1.6.Your Gearbox will be ok to use.
Pretty much everything you need to know Linch has mentioned.

why not just sell the 1.2 and buy a 1.6 sport, will be much cheaper, probably more reliable, and you get the sport interior, etc

I know someone who is pretty handy and would'nt mind doing it for me.
Erm sxi's are the same as sports but with out electric windows.
Would that engine fit staright in and be ready to go, where would i get a mount from.
It has power steering but no AC if that helps.
