A mate of mine is interested in this Astra VXR.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/998092.htm

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on it. Good price etc?

Also with a list of modifications like that, is it going to be reliable? The work was carried out at Regal as far as im aware. BHP figure a bit optimistic?

Its been on there 24 days now which makes me start wondering why. Although my Ibiza was on there for ages and there was nothing wrong with that.

Any help, comments, what to look for etc etc very welcome.

Stunning lookin car that, good price as well especialy with those mods and reciepts to back the mods up.

Standard ones go for that price i've noticed.

Dont bother about how long its been up for sale, due to the falling market everyone is out for a bargin and even tho that is a great price the mods will put a lot of people off on such a newer car with the higher insurance

Steer clear IMO.

Get a standard one.

It's got 350bhp but standard brakes and suspension

There would really be no point buying that car at all. I bet a standard one would be quicker around a track, I think stage 2 is the absolute limit for the Astra before it just gets ridiculous for anything other than going in a straight line.

bhp figure is probably around that figure, but that's a lot of load to put on the brakes

i'd buy a standard/lightly modified one and go from there.

£12.5k seems overpriced for a 3yr old Astra with boggo wheels on it. Regardless of engine upgrades.

New ones on PH for £16k with 3yr warrenty etc.

Cheers for the replies people

Yeah there's a few standard ones slightly newer for kind of the same price, but for him to do these modifications (or stage 2) it will cost him a lot more on top of this one. This is low mileage too.

Trying to persuade him to get a T9 or T8 and join the dirty diesels

I don't see anything wrong with that apart from where he says he needs to sell to fund a house, then straight after says he'll take part-ex's.

Agreed it seems a bit too good to be true. But you can't argue with a full engine rebuild with only 18,500miles on it. If If your mate's wanting to view it simply take someone along that knows what they're talking about or failing that you can get the AA out and pay them cash to look over a car and check over. Assuming it isn't too far away, you've got nothing to lose by having a look.

All that power and no LSD!?! I'm only running standard power and It'd be first on my list of mods!

As has been said it's strange that he'd P/X for the same car - if anything you'd swap some of the parts and raise the cash that way. I don't think i could put my faith in it reliability wise given the extent of the mods.
