Mates looking at a 2000 reg one. Seem like good cars. Are they particularly nippy etc? Any common faults?
Just seen on the revo site you can get these mapped to 207 bhp from the standard 150 bhp!

if its the face lift version it will be 180bhp as oppose to the 150bhp (the 180bhp is easier to fiddle with aswell)
few of the faults are, the rear window jet sometimes works its way dis connecter, brake light switch tends to go on the older cars as they are aproaching 10 years old, the oem dump valve is quite prone to going aswell from what i am aware of. nothing too majour though (if you can class the rear brake light may not be working as non majour)
with respects to the remap
GET IT DONE , my mate has had his pre facelift mapped to 207 bhp by CustomCode and no word of a lie, when he sticks his foot down it about breaks your neck
but if your wanting any more info just pop onto
audi-sport.net
hope that helps mate

I was sure they're 150bhp too. It's the quattro's that are 180bhp.

yeah my brothers got one, quite nippy, his is the 180 bhp quattro, he had a few problems with his as it approached 70,000miles, had to replace a driveshaft, also the slave cylinder and master cylinder goes on them, a common fault

the only 180bhp A3 is the Quattro, all others are 150bhp.
check for rust on the edge of the roof and on the rear arches as well and the bottom of the doors. as the A3/S3 are prone to rust there. They are quite nippy, but a remap can give it a few more ponies, ive had my s3 mapped best thing ive ever done. just make sure its had the timing belt and water pump if its got over 60k on it. depending on what engine code it has you'll get between 180 too just over 200 from a remap.

turns out my mate has been lieing to me about the 180 bhp thing :@ lol. but yeah it does about break your neck, when hes got it at the right rev's and sticks toe down
and yes i have been in a fast car
ive been in a golf R32, granted in a completely different legue to the a3 and i have also been in an imported impreza 3door type r, which has had 21k spent on it, that does 0-60 in around 3.9
fair enough these are in completely different legues to the a3 but i really wasn't expecting it to pull that much

as stated 180's are 4 wheel drive and personally not worth it
Get the 150 and remap to 200 BHP
180's will go to 210 but 4 wheel drive system is heavy and vastly overated
Also stay away from revo
Faults include
coils
bushes
general electrics
dashpods
water pump

as a few people have stated the 180's are the 180bhp, i do stand corrected on that

as above, avoid revo, maps are way too harsh. Add to Whitters list the standard recirc valve and MAF sensors. Slow car in standard form, not very fast with a remap either tbh. good potential for big power tho with the right ££££

I'd dissagree with this, the haldex quattro system really helps put the power down especially when cornering, the grip is superb when set-up right.
Im talking S3 though...

The S3 was designed with 4wd in mind and more power, the A3 was not. For the power the car puts out, even on a remap, it has no need for 4wd.
