If i bought the tax online now - would i be able to drive it off there drive later on today? Obviously i would not have the tax disc for 5 days....?
Also as the car is not registered to me yet can this still be done?
I have sorted insurance.

Print off the paper work to say you have bought and paid for tax and keep it in your glove box. And away you go

Car needs to be in your name butttttt not having the tax disk isn't illegal if youve done it online now IIRC, you get a few days "grace" for it to come through the post.

Not if has the new keeper supplement. (The little green slip) Proves he has purchased the car.

ive jsut read this on the dvla website
IMPORTANT
If you have recently purchased this vehicle and you have not received your full Registration Certificate (log book) from DVLA (the green slip alone is not enough) you should NOT use this service.
If you do use this service without having received your full Registration Certificate (log book) from DVLA then your new tax disc may be sent to the previous keeper of the vehicle.

if the previous owner hasnt sent the log book yet, take it to the postie and tax it, if not, just tax it online and pick the tax disk up from previous owner when it comes in the post

IIRC it is an offence to NOT display an 'in-date' tax disc. Same fine as not having tax.
Tax it online, print out the paperwork and hope that the copper (if you ever encounter one) lets you off.

Post office is only 'meant' to accept genuine insurance certificates.
I got my insurance to email me the cover note through and i fobbed that off as the real one. Some/most insurance companies wont do this though..

You'll probably not be able to get tax until the cover note comes through.

Id make sure its on good quality paper. Basically, your aiming to 'trick' the post office into thinking that that is the genuine cover note that youv'e been sent in the post.
Quite pikey, but it works.
As far as i know, that is the only way of doing it, bar waiting for the real cover note.

i did this at the start of the month. the MX5 was untaxed. online is no good unless you have the full V5 as the disc WILL be sent to the registered owner's address which will be the sellers. as such the only way to tax a car is to go to a Post Office with the V5 and valid insurance and MOT
i drove the MX5 home Friday night and Taxed the car first thing on Saturday morning.
