I'm gonna get flack probably...

I bought a second hand custom made stainless exhaust for a good price, all good except that has a massive 4-inch slash cut tail pipe.

Is it fundamentally wrong to cut the tip off and get an ebay stainless universal pipe trim to make it whatever shape I fancy On the plus side I can change the style of it whenever I fancy. But could you tell?

I'd say it was only pikey of you were putting the tip over a standard pea shooter to make everyone think you have a SS exhaust. Nowt wrong with using them for an actual tip if you can mate it with the system.

People will only mock if you screw a 5 inch exhaust trim onto a standard corsa backbox, you're essentially just customising the exit of your custom system so it's not the same. Go for it.

I made my exhaust for the kit car for noise testing and SVA out of a pug 307 diesel back box with a Halfrauds chrome tip welded on as it has the bevelled end. It was all flatted down and painted high temp black and looks ok. So, no it isn't pikey.

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.
