I work at a main dealer and a mechanic was today supposed to be doing my cambelt and water pump / servicing it, then this morning he texts me an hour before I was supposed to be at his, that he has to go out and that he cant do it,so quickly rung a local garage see they could fit it in today and they said yes so I took it to them at 10.15,they said could be 4 or 5 when its ready as they had a lot of work on which is fair enough, so me and the mrs and dog been trundling around all day decided to catch bus to town do a bit of shopping then came back and sat in waiting room 2 hours when got back, just feels like wasted a day and really pissed off, do other people find that mechanics who do jobs on the side fuck you around and seem like thay cant be bothered/unreliable when said they're going to do it

Going to keep taking it to local garage in future

Yeah exactly ok so he might have a valid excuse but everytime I ask someone they seem half hearted or say got too much on etc, whats up with people id be glad of the extra money on the side, garage charged me £69 labour I supplied the parts and oil that was on a 1.6 8v mk3 astra estate, good/bad? I think he would've maybe charged £60 anyway

I had my car serviced yesterday by a guy who does it on the side, he provided all parts (fuel filter, oil filter, 5l new oil semi syn) and did all the work for £45, I couldnt buy the parts for that let alone waste time doing it as well, very pleased.

And your price for a cambelt change was very good, go back to them again
