Can anyone tell me if it is illegal to have a car parked outside of your house(not in a driveway or anything, just on your street) when it is taxed but not insured?

So potentially even if it's not being driver, the driving can be done for no insurance?

shudnt think the car has to be insured because my dads evo is sat on our front and nobodys got insurance out on it but he drives it with his trade insurance, so on police records its not got insurance on it

Yeah but he's insured to drive it with the trade insurance, so he'd just have to explain that. I didn't know you couldn't have it sat outside your house in your allocated parking space, but there you go!

yeh so basically you can have your car sat on your front aslong as it is taxed, your car doesnt have to be insured to sit on your front aslong as your not driving it, thats why its called road tax, aslong as its taxed and not being driven then you wouldnt have a problem, but if its being driven then obviously its illegal

Sitting infront of your house you mean? My brother was told by a police officer that because his tax was fine, even though he didn't have insurance, they wouldn't take it further because it was sat infront on the street infront of the house, but asked him to put it in the garden. He did, and yet has just received a court date.

yeh sitting infront of my house, thats abit F**cked up then as ive had cars sitting on my front before with tax on but no insurance and ive had no problems with mine and the police round here are T**ts

sorry if you think i was being an arse there, it's kind of hard to get the tone across over the internet 
you can have a vehicle sitting on your own property with no insurance such as a garage or a driveway. that's it though. no parking spaces on the public highway at all.

if the car is on a public road it has to be insured..
if its on what is deamed to be a private road then npe dont have to have insurance. iirc

never know, court might understand and just give him a fine, all depends whos the judge on the day unfortunately.
