Try and get photos of the damage when they arent looking or if they are okay with a few pics being taken, get on the blower or nip down to vw and pretend its your wifes car and see what price they come up with.

This way you know if your neighbours are bullshitting on price.

Also, get another 2 independant quotes from bodywork companies and present them with the results...

Also, try hinting to them that if they were to go through the insurance you "might" just make life difficult for them buy not admitting liability and let it get into a long drawn out process which will take time. This way it might go 50 50 (unlikely as nobody was driving their car but still) and they might cough to taking it down a local body shop and getting it booked in and done within a week or so.

Just an idea.

If somebody hit my car i'd be taking it where I wanted.

I probably wouldn't take the piss but for most people, the manufacturer of the car will be the obvious first choice for a quote.

Who cares who does the job as long as it looks like it was before it was hit?

Also, depending on your relationship with them, they might just accept the cheapest and say if they still arent happy with it after its been in the body shop it will need to be sorted at your expense?

Chances are by this time you can tell them to sling their hook if they are being pathetic about it.

Yeah true, but just say to them go with the cheaper quote and if it doesnt look like new they can go back to the body shop or you will pay the extra to get it sorted.

Its a 3 year old car.. Anyone is going to be a bit pissed off and want to get the repairs done to the highest standard possible.

Best thing you can do is be as humble as possible and literally beg them to get another quote so you can pay for it cash.

But if they are addiment they want to go to VW and you can't afford it then I'm afraid you are going to have to bite the bullet and go through your insurance, its your fault at the end of the day.

firstly a personaly good tip here look where your going.... Stops things like this being a annoyance on your wallet..
Secondly. That price is bloody crazy.. What have they got down that needs replacing.. annoying thing is that vw are bloody expensive to the point you can choke at some of there prices..
Thirdly. I can under stand you wanting to do it outside of insurance, im having my car done at the moment as i was in a smack a month ago, not affecting my no claims as he hit the back of me, but quin want 2k to insure me now where everyone else will accept 400....
Think it all boils down to you taking a bit more care and you should be ok.. We live and learn. Unfortunately for you its getting expensive.

Read my post. I said if they still arent happy when the job has been completed by a credible accident repair company and they are kicking up a fuss, THEN call them pathetic!

£900 is riduculous, gets pics of the damage up if you can.

Personally i'd go through insurance and explain everything to them in detail, they wont punish you too much over the next few years to warrant a £900 cash deal.

Also from previous experience main dealer bodyshops are usually wank

We've not seen photos yet so we can really comment on the price.

Authorised repair centers are always more expensive because the work normally has a 3 year or more guarentee.
