I had MOT last week, and the advisory was slight play in offside rear wheel bearing and nail in tyre. Ive got a trip to Scotland in 2 weeks, how quickly does this have to be repaired? I will get the nail done and hole filled up before i leave, just wondering about the bearing.

i'd do your bearing, if they go you'll know
Actually do it in the next few days so you don't die or anything.

Not a lot, they cost about £8 or something and don't take long to fit. Someone at a garage will probably do it in their lunch and pocket the money tbh.

is it front or back,
front is a bit harder as you will need to press the bearing out

Its the back one. I had a track rod end replaced the other week as well and that was about £55.

Can you hear a noise comming from the bearing when your driving? If you don't then you should get a few months out of it. After I heard the noise I got about 5 months out of one of my rear wheel bearings before I thought enough is enough and got it done for £70. I only got a month or 2 out of one of my front bearings after I heard the noise and that cost me £90 to get fixed.

I cant hear any noise out of the ordinary when driving. I would have to listen really hard to hear it.

Well it will be fine just now but as soon as you start to hear a rubbing noise then I would think about getting it changed soon

awful advice
if you have play in your back wheels, and you hit a corner thats not good. IF your bearings are on the way out, replace them now while it's an easy job!! If left they heat up due to metal rubbing metal, can cause more damage, and often welt the metels together, meaning new pin in the hub etc etc, just do the job and save bother.
