40's would be a bit harsh on the road imo. I stuck to 45's

45's may give you more grip as well, as more of the side wall can be used.

40's are hardly harsh. Feel just the same as 45's tbh.

195/40/16s are the only size for 16s. 45s are way too big looking.
no difference in feel on the road in my opinion between 45s and 40s, if anything the 40s feel better

40's look so much better than 45's and give a load more room if you want to go low Just watch out for pot holes!

I would get some cheapo 205/55's on to start with then that will scrub off enough plastic arch trim for 195/40 's to fit like a golve.
Thats what i did anyway

40's are the right radius so the speedo etc will not be effected, plus as said they look so much better.
45's are about 2cm bigger, it was about that when I measured them anyway.
165/70/13 ftw tbh

195/45/16's no scrubbing, low as you want

40's offer worse ride comfort and worse handling and cost more.

no. no chopping.
ride comfort is a fair bit worse than on 45 profile though.
