I've chance of buying a 2l 16v 'Red Top' from a local car, with the intention of putting it in a Corsa to build a track car.

It's £250. Includes all pipework and wiring, perfect runner no smoke or nasty tapping once warm. No gearbox. Done 106k. Is being removed from an Astra GSi that failed its MOT due to chassis corrosion.

Is £250 ok for it or should I be offering less. I bought my last XE for £250, but got the F20 with it, shafts etc. So not sure if the lads asking too much for this one, even though it is a good engine.

Any advice much appreciated

That's ok I guess, if it's not a smoker or a ratteler then you can't complain - saves a rebuild

Thanks for the advice. I just wasn't 100% sure about it. The engine seems spot on and was running fine in the car, car is just being broken due to a crack in the chassis.

Looks like I have an engine to explain to the wife then...ha ha. Then another car to explain to go with it

I know the previous owner of the car, who sold it to a mate who's breaking it. So I'm reasonably happy it's a good 'un.

xe prices are starting to get a bit high imo.

people are wanting/thinking they can get £100-150 for f20's, £400-500 for engine, box, loom, ecu and mani too.

so £250 is a pretty reasonable price if its good.
