the 2.2 is a reliable engine, mine did 75k whilst i owned it and apart from regular servicing it only needed a chain tensioner because it developed a slight rattle at about 58k but i replaced the whole chain kit anyway which was a doddle and cost jus over a ton in parts from vauxhall.
The problem with the timing chains snapping is on earlier models (<02) which have a smaller oil jet that lubes the chain which can become blocked from shitty old oil, so the chain isnt lubed and eventually snaps. To rectify this Gm removed a small copper/brass sleave from the jet thus making the bore larger and less likely to get blocked.

Cheers for the heads up on that, good if I can get a newer model then and not too expensive swap the chain and tensioner by the sounds of it then, bit of a relief if I get one lol
