Just sold my BMW on Saturday and paid for a years insurance on the corsa starting 1st Feb
BMW insurance runs out May 2nd
I have 7 years NCB on BMW and 2 years on Corsa. I can drive other cars on my HIC insurance (corsa) but not with Virgin, it's something I need all the time!
Policy 1 BMW Virgin
Policy 2 Corsa HIC
I might be buying another car, but unsure when. I need to keep the Virgin policy active until May or I lose a years NCB, so the options I have are:
Option 1
Swap insurance for BMW over to Corsa
Keep HIC insurance
Cancel Virgin policy in May at renewal
Can still drive other cars
Option 2
Swap insurance for BMW over to Corsa
Stop HIC insurance and just reclaim the £150 I just paid
Keep Virgin policy and move across to another vendor in May
Can not drive other cars until May 2nd
Option 3
Swap insurance for BMW over to Corsa
Stop HIC insurance on May 2nd and get back some of the money
Keep Virgin policy and move across to another vendor in May
Can drive other cars
What would youd o?

yeah but its 55 quid a month, and I can knock it down to 8 quid a month if i swap it over to a cheap car
technically I wont have to own the car as i wont be making any claims on it, will just use it to build up my ncb so i dont have to cancel the insurance for a few months, or is that illegal
i could swap it over to the corsa and run 2 policies on that, only illegal if making 2 claims so i understand

Your NCD on the BMW will last anything UPTO 2 years. Anything after that they expire.
EDIT Thats if you don't allocate the 7 years to a car that is.

Yep, at £55 a month then you will probably pay more to get the 8 years NCB than you will save come renewal by having the extra year.
