i was thinking of getting a break down cover next time i renew my insurance (usually there is a deal with insurance renewal)..

what sort of "roadside" help fo they offer? if say i have no spare wheel, and have a puncture, will they help? or is it just mechanical help they provide?

before any one says to carry a spare wheel, there is a boot install, instead of spare tyre...

most will offer a recovery service but it will be limted ie local garage or set ammount of miles but nothing near your actual intilment, you can actually get done for not carrying a spare wheel in the vehicle is theres ment to be one in the vehicle, the law's different to the mot testers hand book

Carry a can of tyre foam for punctures. Also just buy your cover direct from the AA on their website. don't get boggo cover either, it is shit and they only tow you 10 miles. Get a decent one and they take you home no matter what.

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

no company no matter what you pay covers you for this, in most cases the rac or aa will try and do a repair on the wheel if possible, if not they tend to have a mile limit to what they will take you ie closest garage or place of saftey within that limit

Yes they will, a burst tyre is a breakdown. If your car only has a can of tyre foam and that doesn't work they will tow you to a place to get it repaired. They won't fix it as they aren't tyre fitters, but they certainly won't leave you stranded.

How can you get done for not carrying a spare tyre when a fair few new cars dont come with them.

With the AA, you get:

Roadside - the AA will come out and assist by the road. If it can't be fixed, they're recover you to the nearest suitable garage.

Relay - if your car can't be fixed and there is no suitable garage i.e. midnight. They will recover you to any destination of your choice in the mainland UK i.e. home.

Homestart - what it says really if they can't fix the problem, they'll recover you to the nearest garage (or as I found out, a garage of your choice within reason - they recovered me 6 miles, when there was a garage about 0.5 miles away )

actually no matter what the service you have bought if the vehicle is ment to have a spare and doesnt have one on board or one in usable condition then its seen as member error in the terms and conditions, and as i said above the patrol will try and fix it by the roadside, if they can they will offer you numbers for tyre fitters who work outside normal hours and in the rac's case under member error they will tow you up to 10miles to a place of saftey, address or garage within that time

i deal with the highways agency, traffic police and local roads agency's everyday the police advised that you can actually be done for leaving your self in a situation of no repair due to not carrying the wheel or not keeping it in usable condition random considering that its not tested under the mot

all the details wrote above are the basic layout of the membership, thats what you pay for but the terms and conditions are what you need to read

yeah its its there its to be in servicable condition if its not there then its not a failure but if the cars ment to have one its up to the driver to make sure its there and in servicable condition for when a patrolman comes out to rescue you at the side of a motorway somewhere

so when you dont carry one you dont expect a patrolman to give you full service do you? you might pay for service from a breakdown provider but if you dont read the terms and condition you will end up stuck somewhere at some point
