Few questions reguarding using a clay bar. Iv read lots of time in the past about them and lots of people have had great results. so iv got a few questions of my own.

1, can i get one from halfords?
2, how do i go about using it, do i clean the car the car with the bucket an sponge, then clay bar, then clean again with sponge an bucket?
3, do i need to make the clay bar wet? or dry?
4, best way to apply/use the bar?
5, any other tips you can think of to help me out on my first time use!

Planning on giving the car a good clean tomorrow and then put it up for sale.

Cheers.

1. Yes, halfords do a megs "Clay bar kit" Where you get a clay bar, a towel, and some spray.
2. correct
3. Make the car wet using the spray supplied with the halfords kit.
4. Clean car, use any tar remover first etc, then spray the lube on where you're claying, once done wipe away, only do a panel at a time as its a twat when it dries.
5. As 4 really.

Ben & Rich on here know loads about the clay bar, i'm just going from past experiences....

Sorry for pic whoring....

Follow it up with a decent polish and wax otherwise you won't see the full benefits of the work you put in.

If you're getting the clay kit from halfords, it comes with a micro fibre cloth. Use that

I normally either wait until i'm finished claying and just wash the whole car, or just polish it and that takes the lube stuff off, never been diificult with the meguiars stuff.

Does your paint need it?

I clayed my fabia when I had it and was really dissapointed with the result for the effort I had put in, this ended up being because it didn't need clayed though.

If the paint isn't rough after you've washed it just polish and wax.

Get the intensive tar remover on the lower part of the doors and a bit of elbow grease first.

If it's all tar deposits you'll be there forever claying it and end up with a manky bit of clay.

I usually wash the car, then clay bar, then wash again, dry and then polish, followed by a wax.

i was abit disappointed when i did mine too, don't think it really needed it, despite the car being 11 years old now, it had spent most of that time in a garage, so the paintwork was pretty well maintained

With the megs clay I think you need a better solution than water, diluted car shampoo is fine as John says. A lot of the clays that are coming on the market now only need water though.
