Im currently writing up an assignment for Uni, part of which asks me to explain how valve timing influences volumetric efficiency. I have so far used wikipedia to write about it but it doesnt have too much information on how valve timing effects volumetric efficiency, its more about valve sizes. Could anyone give me some pointers/a more in-depth explanation about the subject? Im supposed to write 500 words and I have managed to explain it in 141 so far

Valve timing defines the cylinder filling and emptying process.
Explain why the valves open and close when they do with reference to ramming effect, pressure wave propogation and what happens during the overlap period.
