as title really

is it any different with regards to preparing, and actual paint used (altho going to an actual paint shop so he will know that )

Just use plastic primer instead.

You use plastic primer and then normal primer on top of that, then the normal paint and laquer. Not really that different unless it's a bare metal wheel.
