I do around 25k a year but always drove newish cars. Apart from my first car, i've never MOT'd a car.
However, with my career i'll be driving a simlar amount of miles for some time.
Is it possible to spend 3 - 4k on a car and run it for a year or so and hardly lose any money on it?
I just do not see the point in having a car full of toys, spending a lot of money out and then lose that money come the time to sell.

VW Golfs tend to keep their value well.

It will still depreciate, just not as much as a new one. Its all relative - what you dont loose on depreciation you'll possibly have to spend on repairs/maintenance.

Do they? I paid 6k for mine just over a year ago, a good deal I thought as similar ones were 7k+. Spent a fortune on at in that time...........as one does. I think id do well now if I got 3.5k for it!

If I was wanting something to just take me into work & back again doing high miles id get something under a grand with a years mot & run it for that year, scrap it & start over again.

Something like my mums car would be perfect. 54 plate 2 litre HDI with about 2k on the clock (she very rarely drives it). She'd be lucky to get 4k for it in this climate.
I'll probs get that anyway in a couple of years

Youd probably get bits failing because its not moved in 4-5 years. That sort of use on a cars not healthy.
Theres no such thing as cheap motoring really....just luck.

Indeed. Be nice if it was garaged too but it's not.

Like i have said in a previous thread of yours.
3-4k will get you a 2003 mabye 2004 passat tdi. will have 100k on them but so what nothing for the german boat on the motorway.
Will still look pretty much the part as its not that old, and they look more expenive than they are!
The 130 is the one to go for but haven doing motorway driving in both, the 100 5 speed is absolutly fine!
