I used to be Prem, but it ran out.

Anyhoo....

Has anyone actually experienced a reduction in insurance quotes by being a member?

Surely not as there not going to base your insurance on wether you a member of a car site, plus if his membership runs out it's not going to be invalid now is it?

The discount is for Premium Members. Therefore you are only entitled to it if you are one. If you're not, and you received it, then no you have not paid your insurance premium and I would expect any payout to be reduced by a similar proportion.

If someone has supported the site in the past and merely chose later to move on and withdraw their support then that would be fine. I'm not really going to suggest that anyone who has in any way helped CS in the past would be dropped in later on just because they don't want a longer term relationship.

However if someone clearly has never contributed anything and incorrectly claims that they are a supporting member, then that is quite simply erroneous and I would indicate it as such to any insurer who contacted me. Whether they choose to pursue the shortfall is up to them but if they had the choice between paying out and shirking it on a formality I'm sure I know where they would be. They're not in business to be kind and overlook such things, they're in business to generate income and minimise their outgoings. Hence the discount to attract business and hence the conditions to reduce subsequent abuse.

It may be fine. But as with all insurance matters, you generally don't know how the land lies until you need to rely on it. I'm personally happier knowing that should I need it, it's there without question.
