Simple answer. No. It is not a performance car in any way shape or form, and it will show.

No. But it won't actually be THAT much quicker than your Corsa If you want a quicker car for £2k, buy a 1.6 Sport, or better a Saxo VTS.

if you a fast 1.6 go for a something like a saxo vts, golfs are not the fast there just every day cars
1.2 16v is not fast either

Astra you want the 1.8 16v (SXi/SRi) if you want something fairly nippy. As said 1.6 in a car as heavy as the Golf will be fairly slow, so you are best off going for a small sized car with the same engine, or moving up car class and going with an even bigger engine. Anything over 1.8 you will notice a good difference

Adding to what Colin said, if you do want a Golf, go for a TDi (130/150?), decent on insurance, cheap to run and pretty quick as well

Can get 110ps models iirc which will be cheaper on insurance and quite nippy.

N/a mk4's are dog shite imo. the 2.0 gti would struggle with a 1.6 corsasport. So if you want something faster then you're looking at v5, v6 4mo. tdi, gti turbo's.

As said the 2.0 Gti 115bhp models are slow as fuk.A 1.4 sport will give 1 a hard time.
A 1.6 Mk4 will prob be as slow if not slower than a 1.2 16v.
Even the V5/V6 arent even that quick. And a Gti turbo needs a remap to be quick. An Astra Redtop/Cavvy XE will keep with 1.

i guess because its such a light car the corsa will always be at the front when the lights turn green, i might as well stay away from golfs, but i still think they look nice

If i were going for a cheaper Mk4 that was decent for insurance i would take a peak at the earlier 1.8 20v N/A GTI.. 125bhp iirc.. not fast. but not slow.. just ok..
Depends on what you want really.. do really need a fast car..
Best bet is to drive one and see how YOU feel about the car..
