I've had two, a series 1 306 d turbo and a series 2 hdi. they are a good car, ignore the bollox you hear about french build quality. This comes from people who have only ever owned one type of car and never a Peugeot. They are great run around, good on juice and feel nice to drive. Handling, as with most Peugeots is spot on. The d turbo benefits from passive rear steering, which at first makes it feel a bit loose on the back end, but with time you get to grips with it and makes for some neat cornering.

Main problems come from lack of service, make sure there is good quality antifreeze with rust preventer as the heater matrices tend to block if not looked after. Other than that no major problems. They are insurance group 5 so nice and cheap to insure too.

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Incase that was aimed solely at me; I have personally owned 3 peugeots and the family about 8 between us

I didn't say it was bad quality, I feel it was built quite well but it wasn't the best I've seen

The engineand handling were the stronger points though i must admit

No not at all, you will always find other marques will get flamed on a website for a different make of car. It is banter though. I can tell you enough horror stories of shonky Vauxhall build quality, but I'm not like that.

It is just some people tend to believe it. Peugeots are built well and handle fantastic.

Just to back up Ste's point, I've had more problems with my VAG than my GF has had with her 106.
