Just need some advice.
Can anyone do anything if I give them my sort code & account number? Sold some stuff to someone who wants to pay via bank transfer, and just want to make sure it is safe. Never done it before you see.
*awaits several pictures of George from phonejacker to appear *

So guess it's not wise to hand them out?
Think i'll ask for a cheque instead.

It's fine to give them out, done it numerous times
Clarkson gave out his credit card number and someone used it to buy stuff or give charitable donations

You can only set up certain DD, I think charity donations were the example that Clarkson fell victim of.

Just found this:
On the 7th January 2008 Jeremy Clarkson found himself the subject of Direct Debit fraud after publishing his bank account and sort code details in his column in The Sun to make the point that public concern over the 2007 UK child benefit data scandal was unnecessary. He wrote, “All you'll be able to do with them is put money into my account. Not take it out. Honestly, I've never known such a palaver about nothing”. Someone then used these details to setup a £500 Direct Debit to the charity Diabetes UK. In his next Sunday Times column, Clarkson wrote, “I was wrong and I have been punished for my mistake.″ Under the terms of the Direct Debit Guarantee, the payment should have been returned. It is not known whether Barclays Bank have honoured their obligation
So is it only charitable donations you can make with it? Could do with the money quickly thats all and Bank Transfer is the best method to get the funds.

if you trust the other person enough then send them, it should be too much of a problem in reality. but just be aware that someone 'can' use them without the best intentions. lol
