Is there a truth in the statement 'bmw engines go forever'

straight 6 2.5l petrol one to be exact - mates selling one wiht 138k on it really cheap so may buy it as a run about

will it be reliable ?

Yes, if it's been looked after. They're just like any other car TBH.

What engine is it? ie. what car is it in, age etc?

Should be sound tbh

My mate has just got a e30 316 which doesnt appear to be look after as the oil and plugs were fucked when he got it, but its on 147k and still runs alright

Yeah it should be fine providing it's had a good service history and decent oil used. They are common for cracking heads though from time to time.

the older 325s do apparently last longer as they have a cast iron block and don't have the nikosil issues

my dads got a bmw 535i which has 113k on it and runs sweet as a nut, just had a cambelt and waterpump....

and hes selling it now full m5 replica basically

Head gaskets but quite rarely, should be sound for a good while as yet

I know someone who had a J-reg E36 320i coupe. That was on 180k+ miles and still drove absolutely fine. The boot was very rusty though.

I got in a Mondeo taxi like the shape below. It was on 320k




And tbh, you know that is genuine, because a taxi company wouldn't bother replacing the engine, they'd just buy a new shitter car.
