Depends, how bad is it? If its light dont wash it. It makes it worse. If you really have to wash use hibiscrub and try get them really dry after. Then leave overnight when you turn them back out try zinc cream or nappy rash stuff, sudocrem etc. And dont pick the scabs off either.
If its bad like ooozy bad then wash with warm water then hibiscrub then tea tree then zinc cream as above but do it everyday.
Other than that no, mine get it every year. The not touching it seems to work :S New horse you cant get near his legs he had it really bad and all I could do was brush mud off lightly when it was dry, 3 weeks on its nearly gone.
