Best first date IMO...
There is a pub right by wear i work, always pick them up, its about a half hour drive so can have a chat on the way, and also if you dont like them a good time to call it off.
In the pub i know the people behind the bar, so will have a little banter with them and try not to let the girl feel to left out. Its a quiet pub and there is normally always the settee in front of the fire free, so jump down there and have a chat for an hour or 2, then drive home.
Maybe i have done it a few too many times  However i havent ever not had a first kiss with someone that night 
Summer similar thing just sit in the back garden and watch the river

Bout this time last yr. I took the ex to a restaurant in london,after that a walk down the road were was outdoor iceskating. We've not done it in over 10yrs so was a laugh!

Few drinks somewhere is always a good option! Feel a bit more chilled out and have a chat 
Me and the Mrs first date, we went out for a few drinks at 7 - got home at 4am totally wrecked, not one akward moment as far as I can remember too

I always think a nice meal followed by a few drinks is best.
That's what me and the missus done for our fist date although we got so out of it on cocktails, we ended up fighting in the middle of a bar, loosing each other for about an hour and then waking up in quite a posh hotel in Newcastle with no recollection of how or when we got there
